As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

The Lord is ready to help his people when they call upon him

The Lord says, “I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help. I was ready to be found, but no one was looking for me. I said, ‘Here I am, here I am!’ to a nation that did not call on my name. All day long I opened my arms to a rebellious people. But they follow their own evil paths and their own crooked schemes. All day long they insult me to my face by worshiping idols in their sacred gardens. They burn incense on pagan altars. At night they go out among the graves, worshiping the dead. They eat the flesh of pigs and make stews with other forbidden foods. Yet they say to each other, ‘Do not come too close or you will defile me! I am holier than you!’ These people are a stench in my nostrils, an acrid smell that never goes away.

We should seek the Lord when He may be found and call upon him while he is near. Don’t wait until He is far away or the time is too late, when we seem to get no answer or when the situation is set and there is no return. Don’t let the Lord wait too long for us. Don’t insult the Lord by turning to idols for help or trusting in your own judgments, or turning to human help first when the Lord is always there for you.

First turn to the Lord, and he will direct you your steps, or bring men and women to show favor to you. He who turned water into wine and calmed the storm could also change your situation, and make straight your paths.
