Thoughts on the Sabbath Day from Leviticus 23 (1)

Verses 3 and 4,
You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the Lord’s Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live. “In addition to the Sabbath, these are the Lord’s appointed festivals, the official days for holy assembly that are to be celebrated at their proper times each year.

There are several thoughts from these two verses.
Firstly, the Sabbath Day is a day of complete rest. This means that there should be minimum work, those that are of extreme exigency, and not those that are related to the ordinary things that we do on the six days in the week.
Secondly, God has made it an “official” day for the assembly of the saints, a holy assembly of believers to worship him.
Thirdly, it is a day set apart for the Lord, it belongs to him more that anything or anyone else. It is not to do a lot our own things, whether it be fun, or leisure or to catch up with unfinished work in the office or workplace. It should also not be to just spend time with friends, but primarily for the Lord, and then for one another.
Fourthly, it is to be observed wherever we live. If we are at home in our own country, observe it with our folks, and if we are to be overseas or travelling, find a church and join in worship with people from other places or races.
